Biden Announces CBP and USCIS Nominees
On April 12, President Joe Biden announced plans to nominate Tucson, Arizona, police chief Chris Magnus to serve as commissioner of US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Ur Jaddou to serve as director of US Citizenship and Immigration (USCIS).
USCIS Nominee Ur Jaddou
Jaddou has been widely speculated as the incoming head of USCIS according to CNN, which oversees the US legal immigration system. She was formerly chief counsel at USCIS under President Barack Obama and led the Biden-Harris Department of Homeland Security transition review team.
CBP Nominee Chris Magnus
Chris Magnus served for 10 years as police chief for Richmond, California before becoming the Tuscon police chief, and prior to that served as police chief in Fargo, North Dakota. Magnus wrote a New York Times opinion piece criticizing the Trump administration’s campaign against “sanctuary cities” in 2017.
The White House also announced on April 12 several additional Department of Homeland Security nominations, including
• Jon Meyer for general counsel
• Rob Silvers for undersecretary for Strategy, Policy, and Plans
• John Tien as deputy secretary
