Our client George had been in the United States for 45 years… and then he was stopped by border patrol and deportation proceedings began. George found Godoy Law Office and hired us to help him. Here, George tells his own immigration success story of how Godoy Law Office helped him achieve his American Dream.
My name is George, and I’m from Chihuahua, Mexico. I came here approximately 45 years ago and I’ve been a legal resident for about three years.
I was on vacation with my family, and on my way back I was stopped by the border patrol. I was put in a facility, but I was let go and they told me they were going to put me in deportation proceedings. I knew I had to do something about my problem.
How Did It Affect Your Life?
Pretty bad because if I was deported, my wife is American-born. My kids are also born in the country, so that makes everything very complicated because they weren’t able to come with me, and that makes it very difficult.
They depend on my income, not only my wife and kids, but my mother and father and a lot of other members of my family.
What Was It Like Going Through The Immigration Process?
Kind of sad and difficult, but I knew I had to find someone to help me out.
It’s one of the reasons I came look for a lawyer, and I found Mario.
What Was It Like Working With Godoy Law Office?
Right from the beginning something happened. I was connected pretty good. There was a slight possibility that my problem could be taken care of. Its not 100% guaranteed, but they gave me hope – and my case was kind of complicated – I jumped on it because I got the feeling things are going to work out good.
What Was The Result Of Your Case?
My case was dismissed in the court of law. When that happened it was the beginning of change in my life.
What Is Your Status Now?
I’m an American citizen today.
What Is Your Life Like Now?
I did a lot of things because now being an American citizen already I applied for my passport. I already registered for voting. My life is more comfortable because I do not have to live in fear that I have to go back and start preparing my life and how it’s going to be in Mexico, so things are not chaotic in my house.
Any Advice For Others In A Similar Situation?
“If you don’t have hope, come to this place and I know you guys will have opportunity to become a citizen or resident or whatever you guys need to become, because I know your associates and you did the best for me, and I am forever grateful for that.
Without you guys I would not be where I am today, and I know that 100%.
