This holiday season, a new film depicts immigrant families through the lens of high school football. The All-Americans showcases a high school football rivalry in the primarily Latino community east of downtown Los Angeles and is affectionately known as The Classic – an annual game between East L.A. powerhouses Garfield and Roosevelt High Schools. The movie focuses more on the individual players and their daily challenges than on the football game itself, says Forbes, and the film:
examines the social and personal impact the game has on both the players and the community as a whole. It is also a timely and important look at the social issues that affect the East L.A. community on a daily basis, such as immigration and family.
East Los Angeles is 97% Latino and the largest Chicano/Mexicano population in the country and the largest Hispanic community in the United States. The documentary is playing in select movie theatres across the country.
