How Easy Is It To Access Immigration Services? You Can Tell DHS
How easy is it for immigrants to access information on benefits and services that are legally available to them? As part of President Biden’s Executive Order on “Restoring Faith in Our Legal Immigration Systems and Strengthening Integration and Inclusion Efforts for New Americans,” the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has asked for public comment on what USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) can do to reduce barriers to federal benefits and services for legal immigrants, including but not limited to:
• adjustment of status
• H-1B nonimmigrant status
• refugee status
The public may submit comments in writing until May 19, 2021, at the Federal eRulemaking Portal.
US Immigration Law
Many immigration advocates believe the Trump administration deliberately made it more difficult for legal immigrants to get the benefits and services that are entitled to, and for immigrants to navigate the USCIS system. New Trump era laws and regulations made it difficult to receive public benefits, apply for citizenship, qualify for an H-1B or student visa, and many other restrictive barriers. As a result, many applicants faced delays, additional costs and even rejection of their immigration claim.
President Biden has prioritized immigration reform during the first 100 days of his administration.
United States immigration laws can be extraordinarily complicated, and change rapidly. A small mistake in a visa application can lead to years of delays or even outright denials and deportation. With numerous immigration policies, procedures, and regulations in place, navigating the intricacies of the law can be confusing, frustrating, and time-consuming.
