National Hispanic Heritage Month 2021
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 – October 15. Each year, the United States celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson. National Hispanic Heritage Month was passed on August 17, 1988, under President Ronald Reagan on the approval of Public Law 100-402. It is celebrated Sept 15 – Oct 15 to commemorate the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua:
• September 15 is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
• September 16 and 18 are the independence days of Mexico and Chile.
• October 12 is Columbus Day, Día de la Raza.
