Experience and Background
Lara Ghannam is the daughter of Muslim Palestinian immigrants and was raised in Central Florida. Inspired by her family’s journey and identity, Lara developed an early commitment to civil rights and immigrant justice, which shaped both her advocacy and her legal career.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations from the University of North Florida. She obtained her Juris Doctor from Florida A&M University College of Law, where she distinguished herself as the sole candidate awarded the Certificate in Human Rights and Global Justice Studies. During law school, she was nominated as the first chairperson of the Social Justice Committee and co-founded the Immigrant Project, leading immigrant students in legislative meetings and advocacy campaigns to advance immigrant rights throughout Florida.
Admitted to the Illinois Bar in 2021 and the Florida Bar in 2024, Lara began her legal career as a civil rights attorney, representing clients in cases of discrimination involving federal agencies such as the FBI and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. She later shifted her focus to immigration law, concentrating on family-based immigration, asylum and humanitarian relief, and complex waiver cases.
Today, Lara proudly serves clients at Godoy Law Office Immigration Lawyers, where she combines her advocacy background, legal expertise, and lived experience to passionately represent immigrants from across the globe.
