Simplified Arrival Process Expands Before Nov 8 Border Reopenings

During the pandemic closures, U.S. Customs & Border Patrol (CBP) expanded the Simplified Arrival Process, an expedited arrival helps people coming into the United States go through passport control quicker and more securely. Simplified Arrival was first put into effect in 2018 at several airports, and continued to expand to more U.S. airports and land ports of entry in 2020 and 2021. Simplified Arrival Process has been used on more than 100 million travelers into the United States and has proven to be 98% effective, and government numbers indicate it has stopped more than 950 people who were using travel documents in someone else’s name from entering the U.S.

What Is Simplified Arrival Process?

Simplified Arrival Process is a secure, expedited arrival process that uses facial biometrics to automate the manual document checks that are already required for admission into the United States.

The touchless Simplified Arrival Process involves:

1. A photographic is taken of anyone entering or exiting the United States
2. A biometrical record is created to track the entry and exit of non-U.S. citizens
3. The photograph of the traveler is compared to photos of the traveler such as passport and visa photos

Photos of U.S. citizens are deleted within 12 hours, and photos of most foreign nationals will be stored in a secure Department of Homeland Security (DHS) system.
