Nearly 1,000 new U.S. citizens from 97 countries took the Oath of Allegiance at Chicago’s Wrigley Stadium on August 8 as they achieved their American Dream to become a #NewUSCitizen.
“Today, you honor us by helping continue our tradition of hosting these naturalization ceremonies at the ballpark,” Chicago Cubs Executive Chairman Tom Ricketts said to the crowd.
This was the 4th naturalization ceremony held at Wrigley since they started during the COVID pandemic, and the largest as 981 people became new American citizens.
Chief Judge Virginia Kendall from the U.S. District Court of Northern Illinois was the master of ceremonies. “It was just a blessing to see all those new faces, new people with all of their background and cultures that will become part of our country,” Judge Kendall said.
Naturalization to become a U.S. Citizen can bring many rights and privileges, such as voting in elections and becoming eligible for certain government jobs. United States citizenship also has financial benefits and protections. Understanding all the rights and responsibilities associated with becoming a United States citizen is important before applying for naturalization. Add your name to the list of #NewUSCitizens.
