1. Is Birthright Citizenship Really Going Away?

Many parents are worried about President Trump’s Executive Order 14160, which seeks to end birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants or those with temporary visas.

Here’s what you need to know: Several federal judges have blocked the order from taking effect – for now. The U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear consolidated cases on May 15. This issue could reshape the meaning of citizenship in America, but as of today, the law has not changed.

👉 If your child was born in the U.S., they are still considered a U.S. citizen unless and until the Supreme Court rules otherwise.

➡️ Need help understanding your child’s citizenship status? Schedule a call today with an immigration lawyer you can trust.

2. What Happens Now That Humanitarian Parole Programs Are Canceled?

If you’re from Venezuela, Haiti, Cuba, or Nicaragua and were admitted under a humanitarian parole program, you’re likely concerned about what comes next.

Here’s the situation: The administration has ended several parole programs that granted temporary status, work permits, and deportation protection. If you entered the U.S. under one of these programs, you may now be required to leave or seek new legal options to remain.

📌 Contact an immigration attorney to explore asylum, adjustment of status, or family-based immigration before any removal action is taken.

➡️ If you came to the U.S. on humanitarian parole, let’s talk through your legal options.

3. Can the IRS Really Share My Tax Info With ICE?

Yes, a recent court ruling allows the IRS to share your tax records with immigration enforcement.

What this means: Filing taxes used to be seen as a sign of good moral character. Now, some immigrants fear that doing the right thing could be used against them. While this ruling is under appeal, we urge anyone concerned to speak with an attorney.

🛑 Do not stop filing taxes. Instead, talk to a legal expert to understand your risks and rights.

➡️ If you have questions about your tax status, call Godoy Law Office Immigration Lawyers to discuss your options.

4. Could I Be Detained Under the New Laken Riley Act?

Signed into law earlier this year, the Laken Riley Act requires mandatory detention of undocumented immigrants charged with certain crimes – including theft, assault, and even some misdemeanors.

Why it matters: Even a minor arrest could now lead to detention and immigration consequences. The law also gives states more power to sue the federal government for perceived failures in immigration enforcement.

⚠️ If you are undocumented and facing any criminal charges, call us immediately. Criminal and immigration law are deeply connected.

5. Will the American Families United Act Help My Spouse Stay in the U.S.?

Introduced in March, the American Families United Act would give immigration officials more discretion to prevent family separations – especially in cases involving U.S. citizens married to immigrants.

Good news: This bill has bipartisan support and could offer relief for mixed-status families. However, it’s not law yet.
