FAQs: Where Can I Apply for a Green Card in Illinois?

You can apply for a green card in Illinois at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ USCIS Chicago Field Office is located at 101 West Ida B. Wells Drive, Chicago, IL 60605 (formerly known as West Congress Parkway). The Chicago office serves all the residents of Illinois. In addition, many Illinois counties are served by the Saint Louis Field Office in Missouri, located in the Robert A. Young Federal Building 1222 Spruce Street, Room 2.205 Saint Louis, MO 63103.

1 in 7 Illinois residents is an immigrant, while 1 in 8 is a native-born U.S. citizen with at least one immigrant parent. Across the state there are 1,826,156 foreign-born residents. Immigrants make up 14.2% of the Illinois population.

US citizens or lawful permanent residents can apply for a green card for a family member by filing an I-130 petition with USCIS to prove that you are a US citizen or lawful permanent resident, and the relationship between you and your family member exists.

Are you in Chicago and want to apply for a Green Card (officially known as a Permanent Resident Card)? You may have a lot of questions. Are you eligible? What paperwork needs to be filled out? How long will it take? How much does it cost? What category should you apply under?

While all of this information can be found online at the USCIS website, immigration law is confusing and rapidly changing. It is helpful to consult with an immigration attorney before applying for a green card so that you don’t waste time and money – or make a mistake and be denied a visa.
