Welcome to the Immigration Minute with the Godoy Law Office where we give you the recent immigration updates in a minute.
This week we’re going to cover the end of Trump’s Public Charge Rules and the new immigration bills that are being entertained by Congress.
USCIS published a final rule effective March 9, 2021, that formally restored the law to use the previous public charge regulations. This is a welcomed end to the Trump administration’s public charge rules.
Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer announced that the house will be pushing for comprehensive immigration reform.
The House will be reviewing the American Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Work Modernization Act. These bills are separate from the proposed immigration from the White House.
The American Dream and Promise Act would create a pathway to legal status for Dreamers. The bill includes protections and a pathway to citizenship for individuals who are eligible for TPS and individuals who had deferred enforcement departure. The house will also look at the Farm Workforce Modernization Act which would create a process to earn temporary status for individuals who work at least 180 days in agriculture over the past two years. Spouses and children could also apply for temporary status under that act.
