DHS announced that beginning May 21, 2021, U.S. citizens will be able to return to the United States on an expired U.S. passport through December 31, 2021, if the traveler meets certain requirements.

Secretary of Homeland Security announced a new 18-month designation of Haiti for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), enabling Haitian nationals and individuals without nationality who are currently residing in the United States as of May 21, 2021, to file initial applications for TPS as long as they meet eligibility requirements.

The State Department just helped make it a bit easier for US citizens who used reproductive technology, including same sex marriage, to confer US citizenship to his or her child born while abroad. Under the new interpretation, children born abroad to married parents may be entitled to birthright citizenship as long as one parent is a US citizen and the child is related either genetically or gestationally to one parent.
