U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will allow online filing of DACA renewal forms, effective immediately. Individuals who previously received deferred action under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) may now file Form I-821D, Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals online. The new online filing option will help lighten the immigration backlog and expedite immigration processing. In announcing the new online filing, USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou said:
“The expansion of online filing is a priority for USCIS as we make our operations more efficient and effective for the agency and our stakeholders, applicants, petitioners and requestors. The option to file DACA renewal requests online is part of USCIS’ ongoing move to minimize reliance on paper records and further transition to an electronic environment.”
Minimizing the paperwork backlog, currently at a 40-year high, is critical to improving USCIS efficiency. Currently, the immigration process is mainly a manual, pen and paper system, with antiquated technology and limited electronic resources.
The option to file DACA renewal forms online is only available for individuals who have previously been granted DACA status.
