ICE inquiries into workplace immigration investigations of immigrants working illegally and employers illegally hiring undocumented workers have quadrupled under the Trump administration, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. Investigators with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) workplace enforcement taskforce have increased audits and arrests as part of an effort to find illegal workers and deter businesses from hiring them, and “investigators open fewer cases related to gangs, weapons and financial crimes.”
There were 3,510 site investigations between Oct. 1 and May 4, more than all of fiscal year 2017, according to the WSJ, and “four times the number of workplace investigations in the year ended Sept. 30 compared with the close of the Obama administration.”
