With very few exceptions, all immigrant males living in the United States who are between ages 18 and 25 are required by law to register with the Selective Service System (SSS) within 30 days of arriving in the United States, regardless of citizenship status. This applies to US citizens, immigrants and even non-citizens such as international students. Even if you’ve applied for citizenship, registration is still required.
The Selective Service maintains a list of potential draftees in case of a national emergency. While a military draft hasn’t happened since 1973, registration is still mandatory.
