USCIS has permanently closed its field office in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, as of June 30, 2019. The USCIS Field Office in Mexico City, Mexico, has taken over responsibility for some immigration services for people living in the Mexican states of Baja California Norte, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Durango, Sinaloa, and Sonora.
USCIS is closing its international offices, starting with Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and then Manila in the Philippines. All international USCIS offices, including the main district offices for the separate regions, are scheduled to close by March 10, 2020.
In September 2019, the Monterrey, Mexico, office is projected to close, as well as the station in Seoul, South Korea. By the end of January 2020, the majority of the offices, including those in Mexico City, London, Athens, and Guatemala City, are slated to cease operations. All offices, including the main district offices for the separate regions, are scheduled to close by March 10, 2020.
The Trump administration’s State and Homeland Security departments will coordinate closings to avoid interruptions in services. USCIS Director Lee Francis Cissna sent a message to all employees saying the move will save millions of dollars a year, and that he was “working to transfer the duties of international offices to the State Department.”
