New Citizen Celebrations to Mark 4th of July #newUScitizen

To celebrate America’s birthday on the 4th of July, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is welcoming new U.S. citizens! USCIS has put health precautions in place and is practicing social distancing at naturalization ceremonies across the country from July 1 -7.

In an announcement by USCIS Deputy Director for Policy Joseph Edlow,

“Taking the Oath of Allegiance and embracing U.S. citizenship is a remarkable act of patriotism. We are a stronger nation today because of those who have chosen to become naturalized citizens. I am proud of the USCIS employees who have worked diligently to ensure that our agency can conduct safe, yet meaningful, naturalization ceremonies during these difficult times.”

Naturalization ceremonies to welcome #newUScitizen have been canceled due to the COVID pandemic. In May, USCIS began to conduct limited naturalization ceremonies and fully resumed ceremonies in early June. The ceremonies have been restructured to follow coronavirus health guidelines including shorter lengths to limit exposure to those in attendance and social distancing. USCIS has naturalized approximately 64,500 new citizens over the past month and plans to complete nearly all postponed naturalization ceremonies by the end of July.
