International Migrants Day: Monday, December 18, 2023

International Migrants Day is observed annually on December 18 to raise awareness of the contributions of migrants to their societies, and to promote their rights and well-being. This year’s theme is Harnessing Human Mobility, Advancing Inclusivity and Sustainable Development. Migrants are people who have moved to a new country or region, either temporarily or permanently. They may be moving for a variety of reasons, such as to find better job opportunities, to escape violence or persecution, or to reunite with family members.
Migrants play an important role in societies all over the world. They contribute to the economy, enrich culture, and strengthen communities. However, migrants often face discrimination and exploitation, and they may not have access to basic services such as healthcare and education.
On International Migrants Day, we celebrate the contributions of migrants and reaffirm our commitment to protecting their rights. We also call on governments to take steps to ensure that migrants are able to live and work in safety and dignity.

How To Celebrate International Migrants Day

Here are some ways to celebrate International Migrants Day:
  • Learn more about migration.
There are many resources available online and in libraries that can teach you about the different types of migration, the challenges that migrants face, and their contributions to society.
  • Support migrant rights organizations.
There are many organizations working to protect the rights of migrants. You can support their work by donating your time or money.
  • Advocate for fair and humane immigration policies.
Contact your elected officials and let them know that you support policies that protect the rights of migrants and their families.
  • Celebrate the diversity of your community.
