Dolores promotes citizenship and paving the way for full inclusion and integration of immigrants into the U.S. Dolores is a co-founder of the United Farmworkers Association, which later merged with the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee to become the United Farm Workers. She received the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award in 1998 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012.
Dolores explains that while there are many benefits to being a legal resident, U.S. citizens have more benefits and protections. Citizenship and English classes are available in every community, but there are people who’ve been in the U.S. for dozens of years and have not become a citizen.
