Illinois House Bill 3438 is intended to help Dreamer students get the help and resources they need to attend and succeed in college. The bill passed the Senate Executive Committee on May 20. The proposed bill would require public universities in Illinois to designate an employee as an Undocumented Student Resource Liasion who would help students without documentation get access to aid.
Bill sponsor State Senator Karina Villa (D-West Chicago) said,
“Undocumented students on campus may be under an immense amount of stress regarding their immigration status, in addition to the already stressful higher education experience. A dedicated liaison will help ensure students have equitable and inclusive access to campus programs.”
House Bill 3438 is next scheduled for a third reading.
