Little America on Apple TV

New TV Series Featuring the Lives of American Immigrants

Apple TV is launching a new series, “Little America,” on January 17. Written by the husband and wife team who wrote “The Big Sick,” Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, the program revolves around the lives of American immigrants.

The anthology series portrays the inspiring, funny, frustrating and sometimes lonely lives of American immigrants in short installments covering immigration issues. Each episode is a true story, originally featured in Epic Magazine. Immigration issues portrayed in the series include:

• deportation

• undocumented status

• political asylum

• citizenship

Indie Wire’s review of the new show said,

“Little America” avoids becoming patriotic propaganda not by disparaging the United States and its policies (which it rarely does), but by selectively emphasizing what America can offer at its best.”

The lives of American immigrants whose stories are depicted come from around the globe, including Uganda, Mexico, China and Syria; and settle across the United States in cities as large as Los Angeles and to a small town in Oklahoma.

Kumail Nanjiani is a Pakistani American comic, actor and writer who moved to the United States at age 18, where he met and married his wife. His comedy and writing often have themes surrounding the immigrant experience and inter-racial marriage. Before the 1st episode is broadcast, Apple TV has renewed the program for a second season.
