Social Media and Immigration

The State Department has announced that effective May 2019, they will be reviewing social media on all Visa requests as well as asking other questions during the Visa process.

Our Suggestions to You

Here are my suggestions:

  1. While you must continually disclose those social media accounts, that does not stop you from suspending your account or adjusting the privacy sections.
  2. Customs and Border patrol may demand to search your cell phone upon re-entry to the United States. There’s no need or requirement that you travel with your regular phone. You may want to even consider having an inexpensive phone when traveling outside of the United States.

If you need any help with an immigration issue or a loved one has been stopped at the airport, please contact Godoy Law Office at 855.554.6369.
