Coming Soon: Rescheduling Biometrics Appointments Online

USCIS has plans to roll out a system that allows customers to self-reschedule biometrics appointments online without contacting the National Contact Center, according to attendees of the recent Spring AILA (American Immigration Lawyers Association) conference. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) now requires users to contact the USCIS Contact Center by phone to reschedule biometric services appointments scheduled at a USCIS Application Support Center. Previous to the phone appointments, applicants had to submit requests in writing to reschedule their biometrics appointments.

Accepted Reasons To Reschedule Biometrics Appointments

To reschedule a biometrics appointment with USCIS, applicants must provide a valid reason and call before the original appointment’s date and time. Not calling before the scheduled appointment or failing to give a proper reason may lead USCIS to treat the application, petition, or request as abandoned, which can result in denial. “Good cause” for rescheduling a biometrics appointment includes:

  • illness
  • travel conflicts
  • emergencies

Streamlining and Simplifying the Immigration Process

As part of President Biden’s commitment to reform immigration, USCIS is committed to simplifying and streamlining the immigration process.

  • Streamlining the application process:
USCIS is working to make the application process more efficient and user-friendly. This includes things like creating a single application form for all immigration benefits, making it easier to pay fees online, and providing more information and resources to help applicants understand the process.
  • Improving customer service:
USCIS is committed to providing excellent customer service to all applicants. This includes things like responding to inquiries in a timely manner, providing clear and concise instructions, and being respectful and helpful.
  • Expanding access to immigration benefits:
USCIS is working to make it easier for people to apply for and receive the immigration benefits they need. This includes things like expanding the use of premium processing, which allows applicants to pay a fee to expedite their case and creating new programs to help immigrants start businesses and invest in the United States.
