Trump Tweets Impending ICE Raids

President Trump announced on June 17, 2019, that starting next week, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials will begin conducting mass ICE raids targeting families of undocumented immigrants.

“Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States. They will be removed as fast as they come in. Mexico, using their strong immigration laws, is doing a very good job of stopping people…….”

According to the Washington Post,

“the government says men, women and children with final orders of deportation will be swept up in major metropolitan areas across the country — a highly visible attempt to stanch an unprecedented flow of families across the southern border and discourage would-be migrants from traveling north.”

The Impact on Families

As a result, many immigrant families are keeping children indoors, limiting their driving and taking other measures to avoid ICE agents. The Associated Press is reporting that the ICE raids will focus on the more than 1 million people who have been issued final deportation orders by federal judges but remain at large in the country.

President Trump was elected largely on his anti-immigration campaign and his 2020 re-election launch in Florida on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, continued his anti-immigrant stance as a key campaign promise.

On June 24, Trump announced he would delay deportations 2 weeks to allow Congress to take action.

Taking a Stand Against the President’s Belief

Chicago immigration attorney Mario Godoy believes people have had enough Trump’s tactics against immigrants,

In my experience, people understand and sympathize with the plight of desperate families who are fleeing crime and poverty in their home country and want to build a new life in the United States. Here in Illinois, we have many immigration rights advocates who know the contribution newcomers make to our economy and society, and offer resources to help these newcomers adjust to their new life and become citizens.

The attorneys at Chicago’s Godoy Law Office fight for the rights of immigrants in Illinois and help immigrants navigate the complex and numerous immigration policies, procedures, and regulations. If you need help with an immigration issue, please contact our office at 855-554-6369.
