NEW Modernized Cuban and Haitian Family Reunification Parole Processes

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has updated and modernized the Cuban and Haitian family reunification parole (FRP) processes. This is in response to feedback from stakeholders, and it will make the process more accessible and efficient. Petitioners will now be able to complete most of the FRP process online, eliminating the need to travel, spend time, and fill out paperwork. The process is still available on an invitation-only basis. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas said:

“Lawful pathways, combined with strong enforcement, are effective at reducing irregular migration to the United States and preventing migrants from putting their lives in the hands of smugglers.”

Online Cuban and Haitian Family Reunification Parole Processes

Here is a more detailed explanation of the changes:

  • Effective August 11, 2023, the FRP process will now be largely online, with the exception of the medical examination and the in-person parole determination.
  • Eligible beneficiaries must be outside of the United States, and they are no longer required to be physically present in Cuba or Haiti.
  • The application process will continue to occur on an invitation-only basis, but it will be more streamlined and efficient.

These changes are expected to make the FRP process more accessible to eligible beneficiaries, and they will help to reunite families who have been separated by distance or circumstance.
