It takes quite a bit of diligence and evidence to apply for a visa in Aurora. Moreover, when the day finally arrives, Aurora visa application interviews could be nerve-wracking if you are unprepared.
There is a set of standard questions that an adjudicator is likely to ask when you meet in person with him or her. It helps to prepare your answers in advance as much as possible. En Español.

Expansion of Visa Application Interviews in Aurora

In August 2017, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) broadened its scope for in-person meetings with applicants. The expansion was made compliance with Executive Order 13780, “Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States”.

Although previously not required, two additional visa categories now warrant visa application interviews in Aurora. Those businesspersons seeking a change of status for an employment-related visa must now participate in an in-person meeting. Additionally, refugees and asylum seekers are now required to have face-to-face discussions with USCIS representatives.

Immigration Interviews for Spouses in Aurora

Intended spouses who are living in the United States on a temporary K-1 visa would need to participate in an interview with a USCIS adjudicator.

There is a five-step process for American citizens who want to marry a foreign national. The procedure is generally as follows:

  • U.S. citizen files Form I-129F to show that the couple is free to marry and plan to do so within 90 days
  • The petition is given a number and is sent to the foreign national’s consulate
  • The intended spouse arrives in the United States and seeks admission at a point of entry
  • After the wedding, the immigrant bride or groom asks for an adjustment of status from a K-1 visa to conditional green card holder
  • After background checks have cleared for both members of the couple, adjudicators ask that the conditions on the green card be removed

The purpose of spousal interviews is to resolve any incomplete or unanswered questions on the change-of-status application. Additionally, a face-to-face meeting may help the interviewer to elicit new details not found on the application.

Adjustment of Visa Status Interviews in Aurora

Almost all adjustment-of-status applications are followed by an interview. However, an adjudicator may choose not to interview certain individuals. Examples of instances where a face-to-face meeting may not take place are as follows:

  • Applicants who are clearly ineligible
  • Unmarried children under 21, under specific circumstances
  • Parents of U.S. citizens

Use of Interpreters During Interviews

At times an interviewee in Aurora may not speak or understand English well enough to fully participate in a visa application interview. When this situation arises, a translator may be allowed into the interview room.

At the interview, an approved interpreter must present government-issued identification. Moreover, he or she would need to sign an interpreter’s oath and privacy release statement.

Translators may not paraphrase statements made or questions asked by the interviewer. Each and every word must be directly translated and then spoken to the interviewee in his or her native language.
